About Sy

Sy Huq is a Bangladeshi-American writer/director. He was born in Trondheim, Norway. After graduating UCLA's Producer Program, he went on to become a Cinestory Fellow, a winner of the Stage 32 Short Film Contest, and a winner of the AT&T Film Awards. His action/adventure script FINDING ALEXANDRIA was a finalist at Austin Film Festival and featured on COVERFLY's Red List. His romance/drama script THINGS THAT FALL is also on the top 10 overall romance scripts on The Red List, a finalist at PAGE International, a finalist for WeScreencraft's Diverse Voices lab, and a winner of the Script Summit Screenplay Competition.

After an extensive award-winning festival tour, his short film THINGS THAT FALL made the longlist as an official submission of the 92nd Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film.

Growing up, his favorite films were by Akira Kurosawa, Wong Kar-wai, Masaki Kobayashi, Ridley Scott, and Hayao Miyazaki. They inspired him to revel in stories that speak to the inner and often hidden strength in people, and nothing makes him happier than making others smile with his work.

In 2021 he is currently releasing a new film he produced and another that he wrote/directed (both out soon)!
