About Sy

Sy Huq is an American director, screenwriter, and producer. After the Bangladeshi War of 1971, Sy's parent's left Bangladesh for Norway, where Sy was born in the city of Trondheim. Following his parents from one engineering job to the other, Sy moved around and lived in nine cities across two continents and found the one thing that stayed constant through it all: his love for storytelling. He would enjoy many nights hearing about how his ancestors fought to build a thriving village and traveled across many lands on traveling bangkas merchanting spices and goods. Growing up, his favorite films were by Akira Kurosawa, Ridley Scott, and Hayao Miyazaki. They inspired him to pursue a path in English and screenwriting at the University of Texas at Arlington, and afterwards learned to bring the writing to life at UCLA's Producer Program. Having family who experience hearing voices, "Things That Fall" (2019) was a story he wanted to create to allow viewers to experience the world of auditory hallucinations in a new light. He revels in stories which speak to the inner and often hidden strength in people, and nothing makes him happier than making others smile with them.
