SUSPENDED FEAR

SUSPENDED FEAR
By Vital Butinar

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

Trapped on a damaged space freighter with failing oxygen supply, the Captain must make a life-altering decision: fix the subspace transmitter or submit to an AI controlled cryo-sleep called EVA in the desperate hope of rescue.

SYNOPSIS:

The short film is about a space freighter named "Nightstalker" captained by Jason O'Malley. Jason is trying to contact rescue control but the transmitter is malfunctioning and the onboard emergency AI assistant system called EVA is the only communication source. The ship was hit by a solar discharge which has affected all major systems, including the fusion drive which is damaged. The AI detects a loss in cabin pressure caused by a micro-meteor during the meteor shower. The earliest time for a rescue is expected in 1,6 years and the only way for Jason to survive is to induce suspended hibernation deep stasis. Which Jason is reluctant to do, since there is no other way to sustain his vital activities as the oxygen will be depleted soon and there is no time to waist and Jason has to get passed his fears of hibernation sleep in control of an AI system.

Hi Vital! Just read your short through and loved the slow build. Here's my suggestion: Trapped on a damaged space freighter with failing oxygen supply, the Captain must make a life-altering decision: fix the subspace transmitter or submit to AI controlled cryo-sleep in the desperate hope of rescue.

Thank you Ingrid Wren. You mean for the logline?

Leya and I have already shot this, we're doing the post right now. It's kind of an experiment for something. :)

Hello Vital. That's a very nice concept. Just a suggestion for the logline: "When a (adjective) captain is trapped on a damaged space freighter with failing oxygen supply, he has to face a life-altering decision, fixing the subspace transmitter or submitting to an AI controlled cryo-sleep called EVA."

Arthur Charpentier

I read the script and in my opinion, there is no point in correcting the logline. I liked the idea, it can be developed, improved, but I didn't like the script. the captain should know his entire ship, the on-board computer should not explain elementary things to him. the hero must act, fight for his life, and not throw a tantrum.

if the on-board computer had tricked the captain into falling asleep, knowing that an explosion was imminent, it would have been a good idea. In this form, it's just a set of scenes.

there is one more point. if the fusion engine is stopped, it cannot explode. the start of fusion requires enormous energy, the fuel is safe and non-radioactive. hydrogen will not ignite without oxygen, the maximum that can happen is the destruction of the fuel tank and the leakage of hydrogen.

Hey Arthur Charpentier I agree with you and yeah it's actually just a short set of shots, basically I wanted to try to shoot something and test something for another project. It it has already been shot.

Here it is.

Like I said, it's an experiment for many different things.
