GENRE: Drama, Family
LOGLINE: A faith-based story about a grief-stricken teenage boy who decides to train an abused horse with the help of a young “horse whisperer” girl must first learn the lesson of forgiveness the horse has to teach him.

SYNOPSIS:

Emaciated and fearful of humans, a horse named Comet arrives at the Sonders’ farm where 14 year old DILLON has spent his whole life in the shadow of his talented horse-trainer mother, KAYLA. Dillon is bored with life on the ranch and would rather ride motorcycles than horses. That is until ESPY, a girl with a special connection to horses, comes to help Kayla around the farm. When the family learns that Kayla has late-stage cancer, things start to fall apart in the Sonder household and WILL, Dillon’s dad turns to drinking instead of God to ease his pain. After fighting with his dad and his friends, Dillon is comforted by Espy and together they hatch a plan to enter Comet in a local horse show as a get-well surprise for Kayla. Communicating with horses doesn’t come as easily to Dillon as it does to Espy, who has learned the art of “horse-whispering” from her grandfather. She is determined to help Dillon connect with Comet but his own insecurities get in the way and it isn’t until the horse gets hopelessly trapped in barbed wire, and is rescued by Dillon, that the boy and horse learn to trust each other. Kayla’s treatment fails and she returns home to say her goodbyes. Knowing that Dillon has made friends with Comet gives her hope but as she watches Dillon ride the horse she collapses and dies in her son’s arms. When Will sets the barn on fire in a drunken stupor, Dillon risks his life to save Comet and Will realizes that he needs to move past the tragedy and be a real father. He vows to give up drinking but Dillon is unable to forgive him until he realizes how much Comet was able to forgive in order to befriend Dillon. He finally forgives his father, allowing him to connect to Comet like never before. Their training progresses to the point where they are ready for the big competition and as they soar over the imposing obstacles, Espy and Will watch with pride.
