2017 Bluecat Screenplay Contest, Reader Feedback: (HIGHLIGHTS)

"It’s always said that a man’s best friend is his dog, but in Bobby’s case, Barley is his kismet soulmate in canine form. Barley’s everything you could ask for in a best friend who doesn’t talk back. He’s encouraging, reliable, loyal, and lovable. Without a word, Barley allows Bobby the strength and motivation to accomplish things he truly wants.

When Bobby’s graphic novel is turned down by Mary, it truly feels like Bobby won’t pick it back up again. That’s the thing about rejection, at first it all feels hopeless, but, thankfully, Bobby’s present day success is evident. It’s surprising and appreciated that Bobby’s made something of himself, even with his former slacker ways.

Overall, it’s a heartwarming and bittersweet story about the effects of pets on their owners. The bond is ceaseless and executing the reminiscing journey of Barley and Bobby’s life together is a unique and effective way to explore their relationship throughout the years. Plus, allowing the audience in on Barley’s point of view is distinctive and just downright fascinating."
