EDWARD SOTO - was born in Los Angeles on the 26th of April 1973.
At an early age Edward's exposure to the arts was more by environment and chance than a personal choice. His grand father's love of orchestral music for the grand hall and chamber coupled with (day time) free weekly
visits to Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium, would sow the seeds. The Ambassador's full scale rehearsal performances left an indelible impression on Edward, one that would keep him on a common path
way of interest in art and science.
-" I might have been about 10, I would Leave the Ambassador after a massive performance and would walk across the street to the Norton Simon Museum for a look and see... if I could come up with the entrance fee. I wore a suit on those days and it seamed like no one would question me wondering around on my own"
Edward began his career playing several different instruments such as: the guitar, the alto sax, and the flute. The guitar quickly became his instrument of choice while at the same time his interests in audio electronics began to take shape.
In the early 1980s, due to his Father’s interest in automobile modification, Edward finds himself in the company of Hollywood and the Rock world combined on the set of The Doors film production of 'LA Women'. Early times on various sets would start an unconscious hind process for him. Between 1988 and the early 1990s, his attention turned towards electronic music and the sub culture that followed it. As a musician, DJ, and electronic music composer, his creative efforts were spent on the decomposition of acoustic sound through digital manipulation. In this, he would come to understand several different forms of audio synthesis technologies, recording engineering, and music production.
In 1998, English electronica record label 'Mosaic' releases a split single under the artist name Phon entitled Con Ritimo Y Sabor. Soon there after, Plug Research records – Los Angeles, commissioned Edward to write for a compilation CD using the moniker The Ed Duran Trio. - Between Scenes. The single displays his interest in synthetic textures and his love of African American rhythms based around Jazz.
Always having a great degree of interest in the moving picture and sound, Edward worked for the company Sound Dogs on the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City California where he apprenticed on the film “Very Bad Things” staring: John Favreau, Jeremy Piven, Cameron Diaz, and Christian Slater. Continuing his career, Edward would work for other post houses including Tape Effects Inc. under the expert tutelage of Academy member Supervising Sound Editor Mike Le-Mare and Karola Storr. There, Edward would work with many well regarded names in the industry of feature films.
