About Entropik

Dan Cullen and Deryn Cullen have been working as a film music partnership since 2006, and are best known for their work as Entropik – the brand under which they have written film scores, licensed hundreds of cues across Europe and North America, and released albums and singles. Entropik also collaborated with the underground electronica duo Ancient Astronauts on their highly acclaimed debut and second albums.

As Entropik Dan and Deryn have gained wide recognition for their work through the People’s Music Awards and the Hitachi Driven Creativity Awards. They were runners up in both competitions in 2010, and have been finalists in The People’s Music Awards for three years running. Their music has been broadcast in a wide variety of TV shows and commercials on Channel 4, ITV, Living, Animal Planet and More 4 in the UK; and Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, CBS, and various cable and community channels in America. Additionally their music has enjoyed airtime on BBC Radio 1 and 6; and BBC World Service.

Recent accolades include collaboration with Jeff Rona on his score for the feature length documentary, Revolution by award-winning director Rob Stewart and session work for BAFTA nominated composer Sam Hulick on his score for Mass Effect III. Earlier this year they signed an exclusive one album publishing deal with Immediate Music for their cello and orchestra album, Metamorphosis and composed cues for a cello-based album for Jeff Rona’s Hollywood-based library, Liquid Cinema alongside Christof Unterberger and Martin Tillman.

In a nutshell, Dan is the lead composer of the duo, and also takes responsibility for all things technical. As a classically trained cellist and pianist, Deryn arranges and performs parts on both instruments, and provides additional composition as well as composing small scale instrumentation pieces. With Deryn’s instrumental skills – particularly on the cello, the pair decided to create music with a strong bias towards the cello as a solo and ensemble instrument in most of their work.

Coming from two very different musical backgrounds, Dan and Deryn are able to bring a broad palette of sounds and styles to the mix – from Dan’s large scale orchestration and bold themes to Deryn’s baroque and romantic-influenced arrangements.
