I was born with cerebral palsy and unable to walk until the age of 4. I kept my condition secret to join the United States Navy and maintained that secret during my entire 20-year military career. I retired in 2002 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after sailing around the world on carriers, battleships and destroyers.
