Gabriela Cavanagh is a Peruvian, Brooklyn-based award winning documentary director and producer.
She directed Sustained Outrage, a short doc about a family-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning local newspaper in West Virginia and its fight for survival (world premiere New Orleans Film Festival, WINNER BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT at San Luis Obispo Film Festival, Official Selection Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, AmDocs, Big Apple Film Festival, Taos Shortz). The film will air on PBS' Reel South in Spring 2020.
Gabriela developed and co-produced Nightgowns, an 8-part series about drag queen sensation Sasha Velour, for Quibi. The series premieres April 6, 2020.
Previous films include Manuel, the love story of an 87-year old who sells aphrodisiac juice in Havana (2017 New Orleans Film Festival, 2018 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, the 2018 Telluride Mountainfilm Festival, 2018 Portland Film Festival), and portrait of artist Nebiur Arellano, Lienzos de Seda.
From 2016-2018, Gabriela worked as a Development Producer at The Documentary Group, working closely with filmmakers and clients to develop feature films, series, and branded content from conception to green light.
