SYNOPSIS:

“Angus” is the story about male model, Brian Brooks; tired of being treated like a piece of meat he jeopardizes his career, by jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire by deciding to become an actor; alienating his actress girlfriend, frustrating his cougar agent, and coming under the spell of a brilliant and possibly psychotic acting teacher. Working through the frustration of the lack of respect he is receiving, Brian has a chance encounter with a student filmmaker who casts him on the spot for her film. The wonderful on set experience piques Brian’s interest and after watching the overwhelming response his girlfriend Theresa receives during her performance at a local theater, Brian decides to sacrifice his modeling career to pursue the respect he desires by becoming an actor. His agent Marissa St. Pierre, a lively and promiscuous former lingerie model, is furious at Brian’s decision to throw away his career and ruin her gravy train back to the top. She attempts to use her feminine wiles to convince Brian to reconsider, but after being rejected and needing to keep a hold of her top client, she reluctantly refers Brian to the brilliant, obnoxious, and militant acting coach, Taylor Vaughn. Brian begins his classes with Taylor Vaughn surrounded by has-beens, never-were, and De Niro wannabes. One of the has-beens is the former “Americas’ Sweetheart” Sarah Donnelly. Sarah’s stellar career crashed and burned after a major scandal caused the cancellation of her TV show and concurrent box office bombs. The once hot actress is now considered toxic; with Taylor Vaughn being the only acting coach with the nerve to take her on. Brian and Sarah develop a friendship as they endure Taylor’s rants, zany teaching methods, ridiculous gyrations, and multiple personalities. Brian’s struggles continue at home as his devoted girlfriend Theresa is scorned by Brian’s decision to become an actor. For all the years that she’s known him, he’s openly mocked her craft, and now with his great looks and chiseled physique, he’ll rise to higher heights than she has despite all the time she’s dedicated to her craft. She wants to support her loving boyfriend, but can’t allow him to think it’s ok to walk into her world without showing the proper respect or appreciation. Brian also faces the disappointment of his bigoted father Joe Brooks, who thinks that modeling is for homosexual men; questioning his son’s sexuality at every turn. It was Joe who first planted the seed of Brian becoming an actor, but even with Brian’s career change, Joe is still not satisfied with son’s direction. Brian’s lighthearted mother Connie tries to temper her husbands’ foolish statements and encourage her son, but her vast openness often leads to embarrassing revelations for Brian. Despite his detractors, and with Taylor and Sarah at his side, Brian fights to prove to his naysayers, the world, and to himself that he can do more than just take off his shirt.
