About Dr.

I am a Ph.D. chemist, author, and editor. I have worked as a subject matter expert for the American Chemical Society, (ACS); I am the recent past editor of an ACS publication. I have consulted for a variety of clients including Weitz & Lutzenberg, PC (NYC-based environmental law firm), the ACS, the Ohio and the California EPA, Homeland Security, and many others. I have co-authored seven chemistry textbooks and served as subject/safety reviewer for three more. I have won awards for teaching, and technical communication (one of my works won top honors in the Society for Technical Communication's International Competition for Technical Communication, 2007). In the literary world, I won one of three spots out of thousands of entries in The First Line's international competition. The First Line is a literary magazine devoted to inspiring writers to write by giving them "a first line," and writers then create stories using that line. My line will drive the content of the December, 2013 issue.
I have expertise and can consult writers on all aspects of chemistry-as a faculty member, an expert on subsurface landfill fires, drug discovery, drug addiction, trace analysis of blood on a handgun, all modern laboratory techniques and equipment.
I have worked closely with various arts organizations and individual artists. I served as the President of the Board of the Lexington Ballet Company in Lexington, KY, and was the grant writer and Chair of the Advisory Board for the Lexicon Art Project in 2004-'05. I helped start the non-profit group The Balagula Theatre in Lexington, KY.
I am very interested in assisting film makers that want to ensure their science is accurate. I am also interested in learning more about the film industry in general so I am hoping to make contacts via this site. I would like to find a way to get involved in the industry, either as a writer, editor (with science as my area of specialty), actor/extra, or even crew work.
