About Mariana

Mariana Bicudo Cunha was born in Lisbon, Portugal. She grew up bilingual in Portuguese and French. She studied Psychology and later completed a Masters’ degree in English and American Studies, at the University of Lisbon. Her thesis focused on an intersectional feminist analysis of the film Belle (2013) and an exploration of theories on identity. She directed and wrote an independent short film titled The Border (2019), which was selected for the First-Time Filmmaker Sessions 2020 and for the The Lift-Off Sessions 2020. She writes, she paints and has worked as a teacher. She has also done research about women in the arts, English poetry and Cinema.
