SYNOPSIS:

The Bastard is a story of survival within the context of kidnapping, murder, corruption, and revenge. Ransom Konnors thinks he’s just a driver, but in fact he is the bastard son of a Russian mob boss and his Yakuza mistress; whose mother, Sato, is a Yakuza Onna-Oyabun (female boss). Ransom works for The Bolshoy Land Development Company run by Carla Antipov and Malcolm Sokolov. The Bolshoy was founded by Carla’s father, the late Russian mobster Boris Antipov. Boris is killed by his estranged wife when he tries to foil her attempt to kidnap his illegitimate son, Ransom.

Carla resents the fact that her guardian, Malcolm, controls all the vital decision-making at the company she sees as her birthright. A power struggle takes place over a City Council vote concerning the redevelopment of the Yakuza controlled Tansohii Basho Shopping Mall. Malcolm attempts to maneuver the vote so he can purchase the mall at a discount while Carla is surreptitiously working against him in order to oust him from the company.

Sato Muonna, the grandmother to Ransom and his half sister Kato, waits almost three decades to exact revenge for the murder of her daughter during the ill-fated kidnapping attempt. Sato choreographs the actions of her grandchildren to wrestle control of The Bolshoy away from Malcolm and Carla, in order to revenge her daughter’s death and to make sure her grandson receives his rightful inheritance.
