About Barry

I am a member of SOC (Society of Camera Operators). I became a DP / Camera Operator coming up the lighting ranks of grip and electric. My lighting and set design work started with high school theater where we had very active and fabulous drama and music departments that put on major performances. I was lucky to come from a school built in the 1930s that had a 3 story fly system on a 60' wide conventional stage with a major lighting system for its time and 2 Trouper follow spots. We also had a very active AV department with a transmitter back to the local PBS station, so at 15 I was directing live multi-cam sports out to the entire city of Cleveland Ohio. We were one of two suburban schools that had the transmitters.

I went on to get a degree in Architecture as well as TV Film to combine my two passions. I always wanted to be an Architect since I was quite young but got the theater/video bug in high school. Architecture has taught me to see angles and lighting in my shots.

My background also includes equipment sales and rentals. I've worked for several local dealers and manufacturers. I am still doing some equipment sales and system design/integration. If anyone needs any lighting or camera support gear please contact me. I may be able to help. I've also been able to pull deals on some of the projects I'm involved with through all my contacts. I was the Technical Director of the production company that produced the first cell phone videos for Verizon's Vcast and then went on to an engineering position with one of the LA TV stations so I know much more about production than just shooting or lighting.

I am a team player and enjoy working at many levels. Sometimes the lower budget projects are actually more fun to be part of. I work union and non-union.
