Despite inept Union generalship and astute Confederate defending, Williamsburg, Virginia, is eventually overrun and occupied in the US Civil War, putting the women there into the role of nurses – leading not only to lives being saved but also to love blossoming, and even to the re-kindling of a friendship across the North/South divide.
