Vyana Rodríguez Preti is a Venezuelan-born educator, theater director, writer, and community organizer leader. B.A in Philosophy from Universidad Central de Venezuela. She started her theatrical carrier with different workshops with Venezuelan and foreign teachers. She was part of the Direction Department of Producciones Palo de Agua, an award-winning theater company founded by Michel Hausmann in Venezuela. Her interest in link theater, community, and social change has brought her to assume challenges such as be the General Manager in the Project of The Re-opening the “Teatro de Petare César Rengifo” and also founded a Theater School for kids and teenagers in Petare (Caracas), one of the largest and dangerous favelas in Latin America. Vyana was the academic director for nine years. She is also the writer and artistic director of several children's plays, among them the trilogy of “Ratón y Vampiro” based on the tales of Yolanda Pantin. In addition, Vyana was also co-founder and co-owner of Lugar Común Bookstores, 6 cultural spaces dedicated to cultural activities in Venezuela. Vyana was part of the “International Visitor Leadership Program Promoting Social Change Through the Arts” (2013). Since 2019, Vyana became the director of Education of Miami New Drama. A Founded by playwright and director Michel Hausmann and National Medal of the Arts winner Moisés Kaufman, Miami New Drama is a nonprofit professional theater company committed to artistic excellence and groundbreaking work. Miami New Drama is the resident company of the historic Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road, is the winner of two Knight Arts Challenge awards and a Knight New Works Miami award from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Vyana was selected in 2019 to the prestigious program Rising Leaders of Color of Theatre Communications Group (TCG).
