As a life-long creative with years of experience as a Script and Copy Writer, Journalist, Visual Content Creator, and Creative Strategist, I have guided internal and external stakeholders through the journey of creating and developing content for marketing campaigns and PR initiatives that champion their individual brand voice, style, and viewpoint. My comprehensive experience within a variety of organisations and sectors allows me the insight to grasp markets, businesses, and systems at pace. Applying my creative and analytical brain to research and interpret a concept garnered through workshopping with a client, then collaborating crews of creatives, craftspeople, technicians, and analysts to take that concept from ideation to (on budget) completion is my “happy place”.
I am also a Gen X, former latch-key kid, born and raised in Newark, Ohio, the most American small town you could imagine. As an awkward and bookish Black girl riding her tricked-out Huffy bike past cow pastures and corn fields, the journey to find my creative voice began with joining a theatre group that often performed on a hay-covered flatbed truck parked in front of the local Kroger grocery store - I shit you not. That group of kindred spirits saw ME, nurtured me, and accepted me as a person of value. From that port, my artistic ship was launched, and, to my parent’s chagrin, there was no turning back…
Challenges excite me. Collaborations inspire me. I am hungry to be a member of a team filled with passionate change-makers and outside-the-box thinkers hell-bent on making the world a better place. No matter what I do, I feel that it is my duty to be the voice in the room that represents the underdog, the under-estimated, and the mis-understood. I know how soul-crushing it is when you are reduced to and judged by whatever the genetic and social crap shoot tosses your way. I am a firm believer in the superhuman power that engaging and relatable storytelling has to elicit thought, discussion, and debate that guides us toward recognising our commonality, promoting unity, and making sense of this crazy, mixed-up world. That philosophy is at the core of all of my written and visual work.
