I'm a New Yorker on sabbatical now making waves in my native Southern California. I fell in love with New York before I even left JFK airport on my first visit. On a dare, I applied to NYU, was accepted and completed my undergraduate studies there! I have been described as “a woman of great strength and character” by former President Barack Obama. True story.
My “lived list” reads like a cat with nine lives and these experiences permeate my creative process and values. I enjoy transforming the good, the bad, and the ugly into stories that deliver hope, promote dignity and unlock potential.
DELIVERING HOPE:
***My screenplay, Pieces of Eleanor, highlights the medical disparities women of color face and was accepted into Film Independent’s Fiscal Sponsorship Program.
***My produced docuseries, Pause for Hope, addresses people living through isolation and depression, and features a heartfelt interview with a Harvey Weinstein sexual assault survivor.
PROMOTING DIGNITY:
***I was appointed by the Mayor of Huntington Beach to work with a team to address human relations experiences. I'm so honored to work with the Huntington Beach Police Department through this initiative.
***As elected Chairperson of the Huntington Beach Human Relations Committee I use the arts as a resource to promote human dignity and understanding.
UNLOCKING POTENTIAL:
***I created and currently direct the Huntington Beach Cultural Cinema Showcase. The showcase has been featured in the Los Angeles Times and the OC Register and features short films from underrepresented groups. I'm super thrilled that many of the films I've curated have become Academy-nominated while others have made their international premieres at Sundance, Tribeca Film Festival and Cannes.
***Through my Page Gladiators program, emerging writers have optioned their scripts, signed with reps, developed complex characters, and completed compelling scripts!
OTHER FUN FACTS:
***While at NYU I had the joyful honor of being instructed by Academy Award Winner, Carol Dysinger (Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone If You’re a Girl).
***I've also studied with Primetime Emmy Nominee, consummate funnyman, and famed Showrunner, Jim O’Doherty (3rd Rock from the Sun, Disney’s Kickin’ It, and The Tracy Morgan Show).
***They made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I joined the Writers Mob LA and was a finalist in the Quarantine Monologues produced by 1oneninety5 Productions and Academy member, Leah Daniels Butler (Coming 2 America, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, Precious, Lee Daniels’ The Butler).
Run Boy, Run Sci-fi ⋄ Action A sharp-witted boy leads a rebellion against shape-shifting humanoids to save war refugees in the dystopian New America.
Soccer Moms Comedy ⋄ Thriller The competition's stiff, and so are the bodies, when three desperate moms take matters into their own hands to bump off opposing team members.
Pastor Chris Family ⋄ Comedy Cultures clash when a pink-haired, punk-rockin' mom is mistakenly hired as the new Pastor of small town conservative church.
