THE SINGING TELEGRAMIST

THE SINGING TELEGRAMIST
By Edward Grey

GENRE: Comedy, Musical
LOGLINE:

A reluctant singing telegram performer croons up and down Manhattan for his eccentric clients while trying to get his life together and conquer his commitment phobia, so that his boyfriend won't outgrow him.

SYNOPSIS:

Based off my real-life experience as a singing telegram performer (yes, they kind of still exist and it's awkward and hilarious!), this story follows Matt as he is torn between the expectations he has for his 'big' life and his reality: an actor who is stuck doing the lowest form of entertainment. His successful lawyer boyfriend, Daniel, wants to marry but Matt's hamstrung by his past relationship. With the help of his therapist-come-sister, Simone, Matt learns to navigate his life and learn what he actually wants.

Each episode begins with a CO of a Telegram that thematically links to the rest of that episode. Similar to 'Feel Good' in its humor, 'Extras' in its pathos and 'Shrill' in its honesty, this show is a refreshing LGBTQ+ comedy with a lot of heart - ideal for our fractured world.
