THE BOOKSTORE (SHORT FILM)

THE BOOKSTORE (SHORT FILM)
By Brent Rouleau

GENRE: Sci-fi, Horror
LOGLINE:

When the lonely owner of an enchanted bookstore falls in love with a flaky customer, he risks his life by transporting into dangerous situations in the pages of several popular books to reinvent his meek personality.

SYNOPSIS:

Winston Becks (35) owns a bookstore, shops for his mother and endures his mundane daily existence with little thought to a more exciting possible life. He is a lonely, routine-driven man who lacks the self-confidence to alter anything about his life.

Things change when a) he experiences love at first sight with a trippy young woman who ducks into his shop one day to escape a downpour and, b) his bookstore becomes enchanted after a Mysterious Figure visits one stormy night.

The next morning, Winston discovers that he can transport himself into the pages of any book he opens to Page 164. His first adventure takes him to a perilous situation in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

He makes it back home but soon realizes he can transform his identity into a more "heroic" one by entering the pages of several books to experience the lives of the characters within.

It seems to work... his beloved notices a change in his entire being... but he goes too far when he recklessly takes her with him into an extremely dangerous situation in the next book.

Hi Brent, this is a cool idea! When I read the logline, I thought the film would lean more rom-com than horror, which could be something to think about.

Brent Rouleau

thanks, Molly. a full out rom-com would not be too safe in my hands. I do have a good time genre-blending, though
