About Melissa

Art school finisher, film school dropout, musician and career bureaucrat finding my way back to writing. Setting aside my romance novelist aspirations for now to direct that love story energy toward the 9 act structure of a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Currently working on a hallmark-style romcom script inspired by the Sarah/Karl storyline in Love Actually where Sarah’s love for her brother wins out over her chance at romance. And Karl doesn’t fight for her! To right this wrong, my leading man fights for not only her but for her brother too and they all live happily ever after.

Did I mention I raised my brother? And that he still lives with me, unable to work, likely needing support for the rest of his days? So I bring some authenticity to my current work.

I would love to connect with other romcom writers, especially those targeting streaming or network outlets. Generally avoiding social media these days so if you reach out please excuse my small delay in replying.

I live, work, play and create in the beautiful and unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish people.

Unique traits: INFP, type 6, Cancer. Will stop traffic to collect a stray dog. Avoids parties but let’s have lunch! Expect deep conversation - I’m allergic to small talk. Stopped colouring my hair. Often asked whether I qualify for the seniors discount yet recently mistaken for a 45 year old. My grey hair and I land somewhere in between. Repeatedly mistaken for a lawyer or someone with more authority than I have. Sometimes I roll with it…
