SYNOPSIS:

Set in Chicago in 1903 and inspired by an actual brothel, the Everleigh Club, BUTTERFLIES IN A GILDED CAGE tells the story of courtesan Bernadette as she navigates the worst possible thing that can happen to a harlot—love. She's forced to admit her feelings when local politicians and crime bosses (it's the same thing in Chicago) blackmail her into the ruining the libertine "rich kid" she loves... who may be in love with another man: the club's introspective Black piano player. It's a love triangle set against the backdrop of race, class and sexual identity. A noir thriller with a touch of grounded magical realism.
