I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya where grew up watching tradition forms of storytelling of my people. Tribal dances and group poetry recitation were my first introductions to performance. Though the VCR, I was introduced to old Hollywood movies and Golden Age musicals which inspired my love for performative story telling. Studying at an international school for much of my life gave me access to new art forms. Indian classical dance, Japanese anime, Korean paper folding, all came together to define my understanding of beauty and expression. I quickly became passionate about untold stories from diverse cultures which expose our interconnected human experiences.
In a society that forces division based on differences in culture and background, I seek to unify audiences by outlining how, despite difference in culture and medium, art uniquely communicates and express the same human experiences.
