This intrigues me. But how do you mean "refuses to die?" Like they were told (by her) she will die in a few days and then you can move in?

Judith Grace Bassat

Something like that. It's actually a special arrangement in France (called a viager) where you can buy an elderly person's home incredibly cheaply but you can't move in until they die. You have to give the elderly person a small monthly allowance while they're still alive. It's a way for older people to have a little pension in their last days. At least, you hope it's their last days.

Cool!

I had the same question as Rutger and you answered it beautifully Judith. But could you work some of it into the jogline somehow? The story has tremendous potential.

Thank you John for your comment. The story was fun to write - I wrote it while I was living in the south of France. If you'd like to read it, I can send it to you. It's a fast and easy read. I'd be interested in knowing what you think.

Thank you Michael for your very good version of my logline. The only thing I might change in it is "farmhouse they fancy" as they actually purchase the house for a low price but can only occupy it when its owner passes away. This is a common agreement in France, called a "viager."

Judith Grace Bassat

They are obsessed with getting her out of the way -- not dead or alive -- just dead.

I really appreciate your kind thought and input. It's not exact for the actual story though. I could send you the script if you wish to read it. It's light, fun and easy to read. I could read one of yours in exchange.
