A DAY IN YOUR SHOES

A DAY IN YOUR SHOES
By Naithan Hilaire

GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Two childhood friends determine the only way to conclude who's daily life is the more challenging is to walk a day in the other's shoes.

SYNOPSIS:

A DAY IN YOUR SHOES is a modern-day comedy about how subjective impressions influence people's biases and prejudices. AND how our perceptions are personal bubbles consisting of dated generational beliefs, socio-economic conditions, and everyday life interactions, often quantified as our individual reality. Essentially, human subjectivity is the leading cause of all conflict, and nothing provokes confrontation like sensitive topics such as; racial injustice, gender equality, sexual preferences, finances and cultural differences. This story will display moments of; passion and greed, friendship and lost trust, honesty and deception, privilege, hardship and destiny, all traits associated with the human experience.

Summary

Act 1

Many who work in the extravagant offices at F-Mark Inc would best describe the relationship between JB -Marketing Director- and TC -Marketing Manager- as a bromance on a knifes edge. There's never a dull moment in the office as the two constantly bicker and compete, sharing compelling experiences of their childhood and everyday hardships -career, social life, family and more- to win over their colleagues in an ego-fueled battle for empathy. Their no-holds-barred banter is the nucleus that brings endless entertainment to the entire office. However, Claire, a quirky office clerk, is drained by her seniors' senseless bravado and prompts the duo to settle their toxic masculinity feud by swapping roles for the day. The friends enthusiastically agree.

The next day. After successfully completing a day in each other's roles, JB and TC are secretly dissatisfied with how easy their counterpart managed to get through their day. Anticipating the tension, Claire offers to raise the stakes by performing a ritual that would allow the chums to switch bodies. Confused and cautious of Claire's whacky proposal, JB and TC reject her offer and go on to tease Claire in front of her peers. Claire marks the cards of the hilarious duo.

Act 2

After a massive blow-up in the office -over a promotion JB had assured TC he'd receive- their wives force the friends to meet at their local bar. A few drinks too many results in a drunken decision to visit Claire's home and convince her to perform the mystical ceremony: THE EXCHANGE OF SHOES. Desperate to return to her slumber, Claire conducts the ritual, but an assessment of her colleagues deems it to have failed.

However, the following day will start like no other, as JB and TC awake in each other's bodies. After the initial shock, curiosity takes over, and the friends arrange to meet early in the office and lay some ground rules, which Claire will adjudicate. Enjoying the benefits of playing their counterpart, JB and TC challenge each other to stick it out for a week. Still, it's not long before the subtle perks are outweighed by realisation and empathy for each other's suffering and life burdens.

Experiencing life from a different perspective prompts the men to have a heart-to-heart before approaching Claire to reunite them with their own bodies. However, Claire will not pass up the opportunity to make one of her seniors pay for years of teasing and the constraints she faces in the office. So, instead of fixing the situation, she throws herself into the mix-up. JB and TC are oblivious.

On the other hand, TC is freaking out. He's got breasts, no physical manhood, and he's on his period. Claire has a hard-on, and the lack of blood flow to her head is impairing her ability to think straight; her instincts spur her to slide up underneath TC's wife, appeasing some curiosities she had about her preferences.

At the office, TC confronts Claire and demands that she return his body to him. Despite JB pleading with her, Claire is defiant and set on abusing her power until TC engages Gerry, the colleague who secretly makes sexual gestures toward her.

TC innocently walks into the men's toilet and takes a routine pee, only to pee all over himself. In a panic, TC tries to clean himself up but is stopped in his tracks by Gerry, who watches the whole thing from another toilet cubicle. Set on getting his body back, TC confronts Gerry, only to be physically overpowered and micro-abused. Gerry leaves TC mentally broken, but before he can make it to his desk, TC runs up behind him and smashes the perpetrator around the office with anything he can get his hands on. Claire stands in shock and awe of what TC has done to Gerry, but the rest of the office colleagues are mortified. Realising his fate, TC announces his resignation for all to hear and apologises to Claire whilst exiting the office building.

Act 3

Claire, JB and TC replicate the ritual, and everyone immediately returns to their original bodies. After a quick catch-up on Claire's career prospects, JB and TC agree to fight Claire's corner and get her back into F-Mark Inc, but she rejects the offer. Claire presents a compelling case for them to start their own marketing business using their experiences to build a bigger, better version of F-Mark Inc.

The trio agrees to be equal partners in the business.

I rate 4 not 5 because it says comedy but it does not sound funny in the logline.

How about -Constantly clashing over whose life is tougher and who is funnier, two friends decide the only way to resolve this right is to walk a day in the others shoes.

Naithan Hilaire

Hi Pattana. No ones Logline includes the genre of the movie, but if you read the synopsis it states that there is never a dull moment. This says comedy without using the word Comedy.

I hope that helps

Pattana Thaivanich

OK!

30 year skip bothers me. Might be better to reveal that as flashbacks to present.

Naithan Hilaire

John Theroux I was thinking to start the script with the two in the office and a flashback of how they met when they were kids to give background on their friendship and how it came to be. How does that sound? Thank you for the feedback. This is exactly what I seek.

Naithan Hilaire

William Gunn thank you for rating my logline. I am open to suggestion on how to improve

Nathan Kors

Freaky Friday with two buddies, the main idea that they suppose to be on opposite sides, like parent and child, male and female. But, here, they look the same.

Naithan Hilaire

Nathan Kors in the synopsis it states that they are from two different backgrounds. And that shouldn't say Freaky Friday, it should say Trading Places, so thank you for pointing it out. I will make the necessary changes now.

Its an affluent Caucasian Male and Black Male from a disadvantaged background. Although they are best friends they have very different experiences and perceptions of their environments.

Please feel to review again in 5 minutes when the changes have been made. I am always open to suggestions on how to improve

Naithan Hilaire

Nathan Kors Their are many films where they are the same sex. The Change Up, 13 going on 30. Trading Places etc. Freaky Friday is just another take. The difference between mine is that although it is a comedy it actually covers real events and conflicts many experience in real life.

I am open to any suggestions on how to improve that would reflect in a better score from yourself

Nathan Kors

Look up the "Freaky Friday" , https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0322330/

It's an archetypal movie on your topic. I know at least three films of this kind. It would not be easy to make something fresh out of this idea.

Naithan Hilaire

Nathan Kors Ive seen it. But also look up The Change Up, 13 Going On 30 and Trading Places. My script more fits those. especially trading places and the change up

Nathan Kors

If you like this idea so much, write a script and surprise everyone.

Nathan Kors The script is being written. I was even looking for someone to collab with as I didn't want it to be solely from my POV, even though its based on a true story. But the friend I refer to has long passed and that's why I am writing the script.

As mentioned previously. I am open to any suggestions on how to improve. That would help me most as I'm not exactly clear as to what you didn't like about the logline and synopsis

Nathan Kors

I can see the structural issue in the outline; the inciting incident(the switching bodies) should be in the first act, the second act is where the ball keeps rolling. But anyway, they aren't so different, and the plot is too thin.

Naithan Hilaire

I haven't given the full outline. I only gave enough so the reader can get an idea of the concept and the main plot. Their are a few plot twists and a load of conflicting topics and challenges throughout. However I do agree that the inciting incident could be earlier. That's why I have started to draft the story in order to work out what works and why.

You seem to know what your talking about. How about we collab and see how things go. We already share a name... lol
