SYNOPSIS:
Nine-year-old Juliette leads a carefree life with her parents and her cat until one day she overhears an alarming story and a worry monster appears on her shoulder telling her she’s not safe at school, at a playdate at her best friend’s house and especially not in the car when her Grandpa is driving. Juliette follows the worry monster’s ridiculous advice to try and make everything as safe as possible, baffling her parents and friends with her behaviour. When her grandpa ends up in the hospital, Juliette thinks she’s done something wrong and if something happens to him, bad things will come her way. Then Juliette gets advice on how to handle this worry monster, which starts with naming him and getting him under control. Mr. PooPoo Head likes neither his name or how Juliette tries to wrestle him under control.
The story follows nine-year-old Juliette and her parents Faith and Scott at the moment their lives become hijacked by Juliette’s newly formed anxiety. Suddenly, things that were easy and taken for granted like going to school, on playdates, and going to sleep are now all disrupted by Juliette’s newly formed fears.
The journey takes the family through Juliette’s suddenly baffling behaviour, with Faith and Scott struggling to understand, to finally getting help. With moments of humour and heart-break the feature speaks to any family experiencing this rocking of their foundation, by providing insight into what might be going on with their child so they can help their child move past this phase as easily and smoothly as possible.
The story is told through Juliette’s voice inside her head, ie. her anxiety, a little furry worry that appears whenever something is feeling off for her. This voice is constantly pulling the fire alarm and announcing a disaster around every corner. Not until Juliette gets some help getting him under control, can she get back to living her vibrant life.
Truth be told, he will always be with her, just like the voices in all our heads. He just needs to keep his hands off the wheel.
