LIAR! LIAR! (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH JIM CARREY'S "LIAR LIAR")
By Lew Riley

GENRE: Comedy, Romance
LOGLINE: A young, newly-hired, off-duty, undercover cop buys a drink at a restaurant for a youthful (perhaps not 21), attractive gal—just before her parents (her dad is Chief of Police) arrive unexpectedly for dinner and all heck breaks loose.

SYNOPSIS:

The young lady, HANNAH, manages to dive under the table just before her parents arrive at it. Though flustered, the guy, MATT, is able to act naturally—despite some nastiness that occurs under the table. Specifically, HANNAH bites him when she hears he's an undercover cop, and also when he invites the parents to sit at the table adjacent to theirs. (He, of course, doesn't invite HENRY and ESTHER to sit with him, telling them that he's expecting someone.) HANNAH's mom is quite smitten with MATT, and once she's seated, even tells her husband that MATT would make a wonderful husband for their daughter. She even calls HANNAH to ask her to leave a class early to join them for dinner. Of course, HANNAH's cell rings under the table, so she has to answer it very quickly and speak with a muffled voice. Things settle down briefly, though HANNAH and MATT realize she has to escape soon or very probably be discovered. She eventually calls her mother, and speaks as low as she can while telling ESTHER that she's stuck at a 7-Eleven because her car won't start. When Mom tells her husband, they decide to go help her immediately, especially because the store is located in rough territory. When the parents get up and tell MATT where they're going, he offers to fetch her himself. Of course, this generous offer “earns” him another bite from HANNAH. MATT leaves but not before hearing HANNAH loudly whisper, Jerk!” Cut to the chase: MATT and HANNAH eventually end up in the restaurant's parking lot, pressed up against her car. Before we see how MATT handles HANNAH, her parents unexpectedly exit the restaurant and see their daughter and MATT lip-locking. Since the younger twosome are quite good liars, they vow to lie their way out of the situation, starting with a fake kiss that threatens to go out of control before HANNAH declares, “That's enough!” As MATT and HANNAH walk toward her surprised parents, they quickly try to think of a way to explain the unexplainable: why they're both are in the parking lot so soon after he ostensibly left to rescue HANNAH, and how two strangers can be locked in a seemingly passionate kiss. The ending is not only hilarious but credible—and it leaves wide open the possibility of a full-length film or an ongoing TV show. And all this fibbing and frivolity occurs in just 16 pages!
