LOWER 9TH
By R. Rabbi Werber

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE: A good woman is guilted by her aunts in to taking the church youth group to New Orleans to rebuild a house after Katrina, and things go from horrible to worse quicker than you can spell "FEMA."

SYNOPSIS:

Ashley is unemployed in Charlotte and is coerced by her aunts to travel to New Orleans with a bus-load of teenagers to over-come an impossible task. The house is a disaster and a much more daunting task than she was led to believe. And located in one of the hardest hit neighborhoods with no working power, water, or anybody in sight. The original contractor is jailed and the replacement shows up smelling of beer, and the money is running out. "Lower 9th" is a dark comedy about the strength it takes to overcome ridiculous odds, conniving family, and a bunch of teenagers faced with the temptations of one of America's most decadent cities. Can they fulfill their promise to bring back a family not just to a city, but to a home? "Lower 9th" is a living testament to those who persevered, moved back despite the obstacles, and to the thousands of volunteers that come to this region every year to donate their time and sweat every year to help us rebuild. It has an eye toward the cold truth, a resolve against the base incompetence it faced, and a grin for the grim ironies this kind of tragedy and this city could embrace.
