About Christopher

The following isn't really quick, and it's not really written in "Bio" form, I'll work on it as I go. The long and the short of it? I've lived a lot of places, done a lot of things. I'm working on production crews to finance my family's dream which is to move off the grid in two years time. My family's goals are to become energy, food and financially independent, build a fully sustainable homestead by building a house out of garbage called an "Earthship." Everyone tells me that my family's process in achieving this could become a documentary series. Lol, I'm trying not to think about it too seriously at the moment, but I'm here.

Landscape Designer/Crew Chief:
DiCicco Landscapes
I founded DiCicco Landscapes as another way to employ the knowledge I've gained in my test gardens at our urban home to generate income. I specialize in custom designs, installations and landscape maintenance. In my designs I employ a broad base of plant knowledge while fitting plants with their needs based on site specific microclimates. Where applicable I apply the principles of permaculture: creating a biologically diverse ecosystem, conserving water in the landscape, companion planting, providing beneficial insect habitat, and so forth.
I've always had an interest in plants from an early age, worked at a greenhouse in high-school, owned and operates Three Guys Mowing at the age of 16, and gained retail nursery and landscape installation experience working in Chattanooga, Tennessee because adjunct teaching wages don't pay-down student loans.

Synapse Gallery and Center for Photography
September 2004-September 2006
I founded Synapse Gallery and Center for Photography in 2004, in Benton Harbor, MI. As the only gallery of its kind at the time in the Benton Harbor Arts District, it existed to provide a venue for the investigation of visual culture. Through cutting edge contemporary exhibitions, workshops and other related initiatives, its function was to raise awareness at the community level in regard to topics shaping the field of the visual-arts and imaging.

Adjunct Professor of Fine Art
Western Michigan University, Chattanooga State Technical Community College, Lee University
September 2002-May 2006
As an Adjunct Professor of Fine Art I was responsible for blending my knowledge of photography and digital media with each school's specific curricular needs. I've taught Photography 1 and 2, Color Photography, Digital Imaging, Film Evaluation, and a number of topics workshops.
My teaching style is to use the classroom as a means of self-discovery for my students. By first teaching my students a solid basis of how to use the camera and materials through various exercises, I confidently push them quickly past the technical confines of the media and direct them into consciously employing the medium to communicate and more deeply discover themselves.
