SYNOPSIS:

On Sept. 11, 2001, Michael Hingson, blind from birth, hears the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle, on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center. However, Roselle sits calmly beside him in his high-tech firm office. In that moment, Michael chooses to trust Roselle’s judgment and not to panic. They are a team. Together, they descend the fume-filled stairwell B along with thousands of others. Along the way, Michael encourages and comforts those around him and uses his blindness to show them if he can do it, so can they.

Meanwhile, Michael’s wife, Karen, who uses a wheelchair, waits at home. Michael tries calling her, but cannot get through. He emerges from Tower One only to hear the deep rumble and deafening roar of Tower Two collapse. Michael and Roselle run. They find shelter in a subway station where they help a woman blinded by the dust to calm down. Later, they evacuate the station only to hear Tower One collapse. He finally gets through to Karen to tell her he’s okay.

At a Vietnamese restaurant, Michael hears jets zooming above. At first he thinks they belong to the enemy, but they turn out to be the US Air Force patrolling the skies. He takes a train home to New Jersey and experiences a joyous reunion with his wife.

Michael appears on the Larry King Show and other talk shows. He quits his marketing job at the high-tech firm to become a spokesperson for Guide Dogs for the Blind and a motivational speaker.
