About Agnieszka

Agnieszka Baczkowska was born in 1981, soon after Poland’s communist government introduced martial law, locking the country in a tight grip of military domination. Growing up under the communist regime, she found refuge in books and comics. As the daughter of two science-fiction book geeks, she grew up in a home filled with books, reading the best of Russian, Polish and American science-fiction authors since she was five years old. Her family moved to Germany when she was ten years old and she was sent to a boarding school in Switzerland. This turbulent time in her life prompted her to study psychology and photography. She holds a master's degree in clinical psychology and has studied darkroom techniques and artistic photography under Marian Schmidt. She’s been exploring different directions in her writing and expressed herself in various forms, writing memoirs, screenplays and essays, always faithful to her true love – science fiction.
