About Mark

At 19, I was Louise Lasser’s Dialogue Coach on Norman Lear’s late night soap, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. At 21, Martin Mull’s Assistant on America 2-Night, followed by Road Managing his Canadian/US Comedy Tour. The rest of my 20’s, was spent standing in cattle-call in New York City looking for that acting job and building sets for the likes of original Off-Broadway productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Randy Newman’s Little Lambs. Returning to California, I worked on a Design Degree from UCLA.

The 30’s were about starting a family, (4 children), designing Equity Waiver Productions; Urban Ion, Ties That Bind, Mackerel, Tally’s Folly, even acting in a few; Playing in Local Bands and Directing; Diary of a Marathon Dance at the Zephry. Television wise, I acted in the likes of Melrose Place, Life Goes On, and worked as an Art Director for a series of Public Library PSA’s for PBS, Art Director for a handful of Music Videos for MTV and as the Production Designer for the feature; Duty Dating. I was the lyricist and lead vocalist with the band Dorian Grey and the New York Surfer - I was the New York Surfer, and we got oh, so close to a deal before, alas, the band fell apart. Then there was the Acting Classes: 4 years studying with Stephen Book, a disciple of Viola Spoldin.

The 40’s were about more classes, 8 years with Catlin Adams, a member of the Actor’s Studio, a handful of acting gigs; on stage, Brother Brian, Sister Kathleen and on television; Tell Me You Love Me, and Supervising Home Remodels in Malibu and Manhattan Beach. It was also when my family fell apart, followed by a decade of clinical depression.

Through it all I wrote: sit-com pilots, plays, songs, books, screenplays, teleplays…

Like the shark swimming, if I stop, I’ll die.
