By Till Olshausen

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

When a mentally handicapped girl is abused by her stepfather, her boxing half-brother reluctantly agrees to lose in a title fight and market the story of their family to earn the money for a private nursing home.

SYNOPSIS:

ARTHUR, 26 years old, cannot move out because he’s the only one who can protect his mentally handicapped teenage half-sister REMEDY, from the abuse of his father RICHARD. Their common mother AISLYN is no help to him. She developed depression and an addiction to alcohol since she sold herself to another man 16 years ago on the order of Richard to provide Arthur with expensive treatment as a child. Unintentionally, she became pregnant with Remedy and is ostracized by her husband to this day.

Most of the time with Remedy in tow, Arthur delivers groceries to old people on foot every day, then goes to the boxing gym. He is trained by JOE, who is like a surrogate father and tells him that his devastating punch can keep him afloat, but he doesn't have what it takes to be a champion. When Arthur comes back home one evening after winning his last fight as an amateur, he sees Richard humiliating Remedy with his colleagues and offering her to them as a mistress.

As a result, he decides to stop working and become a pro boxer to earn at least enough money to place Remedy in a good nursing home where she’s safe from her stepfather for good. Arthur continues to fight and is eventually booked for a voluntary defense of Cuban champion HALCON HERNANDEZ. The deal is to get knocked out in the fifth round. After that, he's supposed to hang up his boxing career and make a good living marketing his touching story. But Remedy is in the arena for the fight and looks up fearfully at her brother as he takes heavy punches. Arthur is afraid that he’ll be hurt so badly he won't be able to protect Remedy anymore. He doesn't stick to the deal, outgrows himself, gets through the fight and loses on points.

Since powerful people have lost a lot of money due to the breach of word, some of their goons ambush Arthur and Remedy after the fight to beat him up for real with brass knuckles and sticks. Remedy turns out to be a brilliant boxing talent, defends her weakened brother with all means and puts the attackers to flight. Arthur’s management now thinks his story is even better and convinces him to sign again. This time it works. Arthur earns fast money without fighting and could actually pay for an expensive nursing home now, but he doesn't have the right to disempower his parents and decide Remedy's fate.

Aislyn calls Remedy's biological father CHARLES into action without knowing that he already made an agreement with Richard that they will share the money Remedy will bring in as a mistress. As Arthur has become rich, Charles now wants to assign him the guardianship of Remedy in exchange for all of his money and share it with Richard who has to give his okay to make it happen. Richard grabs Remedy hard by the scruff of the neck, looks into her eyes with disdain, then just throws the girl at Arthur’s feet. The deal is sealed. Arthur is appointed as Remedy's guardian, is poor again and can't afford Remedy's nursing home anymore.

But the famous champ Hernandez still has a score to settle with Arthur. He offers Remedy a free spot in his boxing academy, care and schooling included, if Arthur agrees to a rematch. Arthur responds that his sister will easily avenge him three years from now. Halcon Hernandez calls him a miserable coward and hugs him tight. Arthur turns down his management because he wants to catch up on his schooling in peace. After her children are finally safe from Richard, Aislyn leaves the house, boards a train and kills herself with an overdose of opioids. Remedy works the punching bag like a fury in the champ’s academy and is the happiest girl in the world.
