Rachel Mariam is a French actress and writer who studied Theatre & Filmmaking at the Gaiety School in Dublin, before moving to London at the end of 2018.
2022 started with Rachel pitching concepts to production company ‘Reel One Entertainment’ (clients include Hallmark, Lifetime, Channel 5, TF1 & M6) with the optic of writing feature films for their clients. Her feature script ‘Just Say Yes!’ has already been greenlit and commissioned by ROE and she is currently working on two other feature scripts ideas with them.
She’s written feature script 'Juliet Is Fine’ which placed in the top 10% of the 2020 & 2021 Academy Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship. The screenplay has also been selected to be a quarterfinalist in the 2020 ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship, a semifinalist (Top 25 Feature Script) competing against no other than Shia LeBoeuf (Honey Boy) in the 2020 Save The Cat Screenplay Challenge, and a semifinalist in the 2021 ScreenCraft Feature Competition. And last but no least, the script was a Finalist in the 2021 PAGE International Screenwriting Awards.
She also wrote the pilot for TV Series ‘PANIC’ (‘Community’ meets ‘Dead To Me’), which got selected as aquarterfinalist in the 2021 ScreenCraft TV Pilot Script Competition & a semifinalist in the 2021 Script Lab Screenplay Contest.
Another pilot she has just finished for dramedy series ‘Inadequate’ (This Way Up’ meets ‘I Hate Suzie’), placed as a quarterfinalist, in the 2022 Filmmatic - Pitch Now Screenplay Competition & in the 2022 ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship. It is loosely based on her own experience and follows Lulu, a French-Algerian woman in her early 30s, as she goes through a (family and identity) crisis and as she reflects on her childhood, whilst trying to navigate her feeling of inadequacy in today’s world. The series will be set to an 80s/90s, early 2000s Hip Hop / R’n’B soundtrack by both English speaking and French speaking artists.
She is now developing the concept for her new feature idea called ‘Congratulations’, a dark comedy, a dystopian sci-fi script about a near future where we finally live in a perfect world: no more money issues, no more health issues, just perfect (boring) happiness... and a suicide and depression rate higher than ever. It's 'Palm Springs' meets 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
Lastly, she is looking to get her short script ‘The Commitment’ made in 2022. ‘The Commitment' is a short dramatic comedy about postpartum depression.
Juliet Is Fine Budget: $100K - $1M | Drama ⋄ Comedy After a year of seemingly keeping it together, a young widow finally loses her grip and finds herself in a destructive downward spiral, until she crosses paths with a middle aged woman dealing with her own grief.
