SYNOPSIS:

Desperate to preserve what remains of his family, and with no other options, a recently widowed and financially ruined man, Charlie Evans flees to a large national park with his young daughter. Here they attempt to lead a normal life. They are ultimately rescued by the very social worker whom the father thought would tear them apart. After the devastating loss of his wife to cancer, CHARLIE EVANS is left alone to care for his 10-year-old daughter, OLIVIA. His difficulties only worsen as bills pile up, the family business dies, and their home enters foreclosure. Faced with the complete loss of his old life, Charlie makes a pledge to hold onto the last thing in he has: Olivia. Terrified of losing her to child protective services, he runs from society, taking Olivia into “Evergreen National Park,” where they continue to live together as a family. Soon, social services catch wind of their plight. Social worker RACHEL DELGADO is assigned to find the Evans’. Rachel, whose career is in jeopardy due to a previously botched case, is determined not to let this case go astray. She’ll do whatever she can to save and protect Olivia, even if it means taking her from her father. Meanwhile, Charlie continues to deal with the difficulties of providing both physically and emotionally for his daughter. Evergreen holds mystery and adventure forthe 10-year-old, but nothing is the same with the loss of her mother in the back of their minds. They are running out of food and the storm season is quickly approaching. In the midst of dealing with these anxieties, Charlie and Rachel’s paths cross. She tracks them down to the church where he has been getting food for himself and Olivia. Charlie runs into Rachel and takes the opportunity to explain his position. Rachel begins to see he isn’t a negligent father after all. He is simply someone in desperate straits and in need of assistance. With her insistence on handling things through the legal system, though, Rachel scares Charlie away. He fears that Rachel doesn’t understand and only wants to take Olivia from him, and so he flees from her, disappearing back into Evergreen forest, leaving Rachel bewildered and conflicted. Things worsen for Charlie and Olivia as the seasons change and winter hits. The elements get the best of them and Charlie’s hopes are destroyed when Olivia falls ill. Luckily, Rachel discovers Charlie’s whereabouts just in time to come to his aid and save him and Olivia at their most dire moment. Rachel finally decides the only way to really help Charlie and Olivia is to think outside of the box. So she quits her job and offers Charlie and Olivia a place to live on her grandmother’s ranch, giving Olivia time to explore her love for horses and Charlie can get back on his feet. Most importantly, it is a place where the two of them can stay together, as a family.
