MEDIC CENTER (DRAMATIC TELEVISION SERIES)
By Danielle Hebert

GENRE: Action, Drama
LOGLINE: Overshadowed by her paramedic siblings, a rebellious dispatcher struggles with the dynamics of her troubled life and unpredictable career while striving to help people in crisis.

SYNOPSIS:

PIPER is the troubled middle child of a dysfunctional EMS family. An emergency medical dispatcher (EMD), she has recently returned to work at Medic Center after suffering a mental breakdown. Piper is sexually promiscuous and is having an affair with her married therapist, as well as a reporter who hides his identity as a hated online blogger called the NewsChaser. Responsible for deploying the ambulances, Piper’s rebelliousness gets in the way of her mental well-being. She relies on weed to relax, along with booze as it helps to suppress her guilt over her paramedic father’s death. One year earlier, Piper dispatched him to a call where he was murdered by a patient. She blames herself. Her cocky paramedic brother, Ryan does too and resents her for it. The animosity is high between them, and it’s tearing their family apart. Piper’s paramedic sister, Annie, is a gambler who is coping miserably with her failing marriage and her son’s accidental death. Annie is often caught in the middle of her feuding younger siblings. Every week, emotions run high as the siblings not only struggle to deal with each other but also with the rest of the headstrong and dedicated Medic Center team who respond to a variety of emergencies that test their skills, patience and integrity, while interacting with ungrateful patients, uncooperative callers, overstressed healthcare workers, bureaucratic management, and others in the multi-tiered 911 system. A female-oriented, character-driven procedural, this show has some action elements, but it’s not all about that. It’s not about blood and gore, either. Like Rookie Blue and Third Watch, Medic Center is about human relationships. It’s also about the suffering human condition that can mess with a person’s head. And at the end of the day, the trauma these people deal with follows them home and haunts their lives forever.
