Todd Russell Weinger began his career in the entertainment industry working in feature film development at various production companies including Miramax Films, The Donners’ Company, and John Woo’s Lion Rock Productions. While shepherding a full slate of feature films as a development executive at Lion Rock, where he worked for over ten years, Todd was also given the opportunity to pursue his true passion: writing.
He rewrote and received credit on several of Lion Rock’s feature film projects, including APPLESEED: EX MACHINA (anime, released 2007, Warner Home Video, director: Shinji Aramaki); CHRISTMAS CARGO (based on a true story set during the Korean War, inactive, last attached director: Bruce Beresford); and RED CLIFF (Associate Producer, released 2009, CFG Films, Magnet Releasing, director: John Woo).
When hired to rewrite the most recent draft of John Woo’s historical action epic, FLYING TIGERS, Todd stepped down from his executive post at Lion Rock and began writing full-time. He has since been hired to write an original screenplay on assignment, CHINATOWN COP, a martial arts dramedy currently in development at Terence Chang’s Abundance Pictures, Ltd.
Most recently, Todd sold an original comedy feature film, ANTWAN JEFFERSON’S BAR MITZVAH, to Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs’ Revolt Films (co-written by Todd’s brother, Scott Weinger, TV writer/producer). Combs is attached to star and produce; Dan Fogelman and Rick Yorn are also producing. Last year, Todd did comedy punch-up and consulting on a major staged production for Disney currently running on Broadway.
Todd recently worked as a script coordinator on a TV comedy pilot for ABC Television Network, and is currently working as a script coordinator on Judd Apatow’s new Netflix show, “LOVE.”
In addition to writing, Todd has studied improv comedy at The Groundlings and the Upright Citizens Brigade, and he performs regularly in LA’s “indie” improv scene. He also runs a humorous blog, “Todd With A Blog.” He has been volunteering as a mentor and head-mentor for several years with the Young Storytellers Foundation, which teaches fifth graders how to write short screenplays. He is fluent in Spanish, conversant in Italian, and is currently studying Mandarin Chinese.
