About Tom

What really gets me up in the morning is the chance to do two things: collaborate with others to tell really great, moving visual stories and, if I can work with emerging visual storytellers to help empower them to do better work, it’s a complete package.

Here’s an example; I am currently working with groups of young people (18-35 yrs) in other countries and the U.S. to train and empower them to tell their own visual stories through short films delivered via social media sites. We emphasize the use of simple technologies and solid storytelling techniques. In this case, I’m both a filmmaker and a mentor and I get to meet great people, hear their own stories, eat exotic food, and see the passion and experience I have multiplied through them.

I began my film and media career on the production side of the business in Southern California. I have high-level experience as a writer, producer, director, cameraman, and editor in projects ranging from television commercials to documentaries to dramatic films. Having worked in many mediums over the past 30 years I most enjoy the discovery of bringing time-tested storytelling principles to new technologies and audiences. I have produced projects in over 35 countries and have a passion to tell cross-cultural spiritual stories.

I and the team I lead at 10X Productions are working to develop projects that involve collaborative productions and training in visual storytelling, especially those in cross-cultural settings. Recent projects include a feature-length dramatic film, "The Enemy God." (see trailer, below, and in Projects), a series of short films in Arabic, and short and feature-length dramatic screenplays.

Specialties: Film and Television Producing, Directing, Writing, Editing, Camera, Audio, and Lighting. I teach screenwriting and film production in workshops and in on-line classes.

If you have a need for script writing or consultation, film production, and/or media training, I'd love to talk with you.

Unique traits: My focus is cross-cultural storytelling - finding places where cultures collide and blend. Most of the films I've been making in recent years are in languages I don't speak; but it works.
