About Tonia

Tonia is a Cypriot screenwriter, director and producer who loves making films that deal with social and women’s issues. She is a member of the European Film Academy and the European Women's Audiovisual Network, Berlinale Talents alumna and one of the artistic directors of Cyprus Film Days International Festival, having also served as vice president of the Directors Guild of Cyprus board.

Her short films “Dead end” (2013) and “Lullaby of the butterfly” (2014) competed in more than 60 international film festivals together, including the prestigious Locarno (world premiere), Palm Springs, Cork, Busan, Dresden, Sarajevo (world premiere, Encounters, Drama, and won several awards for Best Director and Best Film. “Dead end” is represented by sales company SND Films (Amsterdam) and has been sold to Japan, China, USA, Belgium, Russia and France. Her feature film “Pause” (2018), a Cyprus/Greece co-production is represented by Film Republic Sales (UK) and See-through Films Publicity (USA) and was officially selected at the 53rd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (world premiere) and 40th Cairo International Film Festival; both festivals are 2 of only 15 festivals accorded as Category ‘A’ Status by the International Federation of Producers Associations FIAPF.

Tonia is now developing 6 feature films as a producer, two of which she is also writing. “Moonstruck”, “Iman” and “The Islander” have received script development funding from the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture. “Moonstruck” and “The Islander” participated in 2018 Sources2 scriptwriting and 2017 Mediterranean Film Institute script to film workshops of Creative Europe, respectively. “The Islander” is also participating in the EAVE Producers Workshop 2018.
