The Stage 32 Videos: Director

Lucidity is a concept short I put together about a year ago. Shot on my iPhone 12, and a tripod I went over to a local laundry mat, and realized i had a free shooting location. So I ran with this psychological horror idea. Reminiscent of M. Night Shyamalan, and Remedy games (Alan Wake) I wanted to capture an internal struggle, with much of the outcome left up to the audience. I enjoy narrating in my shorts, I think it creates a unique view inside our characters mind, that traditional dialogue may not. I hope you enjoy Lucidity!

Marty is a Film Director whose debut feature documentary 'Hostage To The Devil', which was supported by Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen, was released on Netflix Worldwide in 2017. His passion lies in scripted storytelling with direct influences from Oliver Stone, Shane Meadows and Danny Boyle. Born and raised in Liverpool, Marty has been based in Northern Ireland since 2008. A former secondary school teacher and Section Commander in the Royal Marines Commandos (R), he has worked on operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His previous work has taken him across the UK, USA, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia.

Deadbeat is a psychological thriller with a dynamic twist ending. K.D. is a single Mom, who uses the Internet to track down her runaway 15 yr old daughter, Cricket. K.D. learns that she and her boyfriend have ripped off a Medical Marijuana Dispensary. K.D.'s worst nightmare is realized when she finds Cricket has runaway to be with her deadbeat father, a member of the Chinese Mafia, the Triad. Deadbeat is a rich multi-cultural story that embraces the American and Chinese cultures and their blending in the character of Cricket, a Happa, half Caucasian/Asian. Deadbeat keeps you guessing until the surprise twist end!

A dramatic tone is used to finalize the working relationship between the two women in this short picture. Both need each other, in the end.
