"Returning Home" || Ryan Leach Composing Competition Submission…

Finished with all the mixing of my latest album "The Erehwon" and some music assistance work with composer Richard Band to enter another fun little composing contest. ABOUT THE CONTEST Ryan Leach - a working composer for film , television and games - is holding anther composing contest this month (July 2022). THis time its a medieval kids fantasy world (based on the style of the artwork featured in the image provided). We were given the photo featured in the video to which to use as inspriation to compose a 90 second piece of music. It will be judged on composition, relevance to the photo, and production value. ABOUT THE MUSIC I wanted to evoke that small medieval village feel with a slight comical tone mixed with a sense of understated heroism to depict the character returning on the horse. The music introduces this character with the drums, tamborine and strings. The village theme is depicted through bassoon, clarinet, celeste, plucked and bowed string lines. A quick break develops the underated hero theme on drums, tamborine, chimes and violas before returning to a reprise of the village theme. The piece concludes with a strong puncuated statement on timpani, cimes and tamborine. Sense the judges sensibilities lean more for the traditional sounds with some room for exploration (as stated in the last contest video reviews of the finalists), I avoided going too experimental (which is my normal comfort zone) and pulled way back and stuck as much in the traditional realm as possible. I think this has all the classic and standard instrumentations for the type of piece I was going for to evoke the animated medieval fantasy world depicted in the photo. ---------------------------------------- MUSIC PRODUCTION CREDITS Music Composed and Performed by: D4Disgruntled Mixed & Engineered by: D4Disgruntled Artwork by: D4Disgruntled All Intellectual Property, Copyrights and Licenses are owned by: D4Disgruntled VIDEO CREDITS Created & Edited by: D4Disgruntled ---------------------------------------- Also, you can follow me on the below platforms: My Website: https://musicbyd4d.com Bandcamp: D4Disgruntled https://d4disgruntled.bandcamp.com YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIiC... "Storming The Castle" || Ryan Leach Composing Competition…

Taking a quick break from composing my "Erehwon" sci-fi concept soundtrack album to enter this fun little composing contest sponsored by Ryan Leach who is a working composer for film , television and games. I follow his channel and have learned alot from his well done educational videos. We were given the photo featured in the video to which to use as inspriation to compose a 90 second piece of music. It will be judged on composition, relevance to the photo, and production value. ABOUT THE MUSIC While I am sure most will approach the ir entries from a traditional "medievil" feel, I am trying something drastically different.Getting in touch with my 80s synth music sensibilities (which were common place in many lower budget horror and fantasy films) I present this short piece that is influenced by the sound of Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter. The story I imagined behind the photo and the music was an ambush on the castle. I created a repeating motif that cuts through all the drumming, clashing and stacking dissonant chords. This serves to underscore the impending doom of the ambush. Several bursts of a synthy brass line punctuates the successful efforts of the invading army.

Abbey Road "Saint Maud" Scoring Contest 4.2021 || Contest Submission

ABOUT MY SUBMISSION Here is my submission to the Abbey Road Studios Film Scoring Competition. I discovered the contest on April 20, 2021 to discover it had a deadline of April 24th. I never worked so fast in my life but t was a great challenge if I wanted to make it in time. There was little direction and the clip was a very simple one that really seemed to not provide much in the way of scoring anything of any significance. Yet, that is the challenge in most cases. Taking what little is revealed about the plot and characters, I chose to compose something that acts as a precursor to what is forthcoming. #saintmaudmovie #musiccompositioncontests #musiccontests #abbeyroadstudios #spitfireaudio #adambzowski #d4dthecomposer #d4disgruntled #filmmusic #horror ABOUT THE CONTEST Contest Page: https://www.abbeyroad.com/news/film-scoring-competition-win-500-of-spitfire-audio-vouchers-a-personal-feedback-session-with-saint-maud-composer-adam-janota-bzowski-2950 Entrants are urged to follow their own voice and trust their instincts. Make space for the dialogue whilst setting the tone for the rest of the film. Take the opportunity to try something outside your comfort zone and remember to ask yourself ‘what can my music provide to support the story?’. ABOUT THE FILM Following its breakthrough cinema release last year, STUDIOCANAL recently released the Digital, DVD, Blu-ray, SteelBook® of Rose Glass’ universally acclaimed directorial debut Saint Maud, starring Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle. Available to order now from Amazon on Digital, DVD & Blu-ray. Live-in nurse Maud (Morfydd Clark) arrives at the home of Amanda (Jennifer Ehle), a famous dancer now frail from illness and trapped in her grand, isolated house. At first, Amanda is intrigued by this religious young woman, who provides a distraction from her failing health. Maud, in turn, is bewitched by her new patient. But Maud is not all that she seems. She is tormented by a violent secret from her past and by ecstatic messages she believes are directly from God. She becomes convinced she has been sent to Amanda not simply as a nurse, but to serve a divine purpose. As her grip on reality slides out of control, Maud's care turns into a deadly mission to save Amanda’s soul, by any means necessary. Screen ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Morfydd Clark and BAFTA and Tony Award-winner Jennifer Ehle come together in this electrifying psychological horror from debut writer/director and Screen ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Rose Glass. The film’s haunting score is by London-based composer Adam Janota Bzowski. Saint Maud marks his first feature-length score, which has already won him Best Original Music at the 2020 Gérardmer Fantasticarts Film Festival. He now wants you to reinterpret the score to a section of the film! ---------------------------------------- MUSIC PRODUCTION CREDITS Music Composed and Performed by: D4Disgruntled Mixed & Engineered by: D4Disgruntled Artwork by: D4Disgruntled All Intellectual Property, Copyrights and Licenses are owned by: D4Disgruntled VIDEO CREDITS Film Clip was supplied by Abbey Roads and the Production Studio who produced the film for use in the contest. ---------------------------------------- Also, you can follow me on the below platforms: My Website: https://musicbyd4d.com Bandcamp: D4Disgruntled https://d4disgruntled.bandcamp.com YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIiCTQj4K3fIHTdbvgzBDKw Instagram: d4dthecomposer https://www.instagram.com/d4dthecomposer Gab.com: @D4Dthecomposer https://gab.com/D4Dthecomposer Odysee: @D4Dthecomposer https://odysee.com/@D4Dthecomposer:2 Rumble: MusicByD4D https://rumble.com/c/c-1395884 Minds: https://www.minds.com/d4dthecomposer/ Stage 32 https://www.stage32.com/d4dthecomposer LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/d4dthecomposer/ Twitter: @D4Dthecomposer https://twitter.com/D4Dthecomposer Facebook: D4Disgruntled - Music Composer https://www.facebook.com/D4Dthecomposer
