Webinar Summary

Learn directly from Danny Manus, an in-demand script consultant and CEO of No BullScript Consulting!

You’ve written a killer script. Great. But now you’ve got to get someone to read it.

Success in Hollywood is often about making great first impressions. Your loglines and query letters are the first and sometimes only things an executive or agent is going to read of your work. So it’s critical that your logline and query letter are attention grabbing, tell them something of substance, make you look good, and most of all—make them want to read more.

Have you sent out hundreds of queries but haven’t gotten many script requests? Are you the type of writer who has no problem writing 120 page script but gets totally stumped by writing a 30 word logline? Have no fear – I’m here to help!

As a development executive, producer, and script consultant, I have read thousands of query letters and countless loglines. I have taken over 3,000 pitches, and I’ve helped thousands of writers craft their project’s logline to help them standout and stand above the rest!

In this Stage 32 Next Level Webinar, I will show you specific, proven, easy-to-use formulas and tips to construct tight, professional loglines, engaging query letters, and visual one-sheets. We will go over what to include and what not to include in each, the difference between loglines and taglines, words to use that will make your loglines pop, what executives are looking for, how to query for representation and TV, and how and where to send queries to actually get them read.

We’ll also go over loglines for some of Hollywood’s hottest movies, one-sheets that made me request the script, and I’ll share with you some of the best and worst queries I’ve ever received so you don’t make the same mistakes. Plus, Q&A.

And as a special BONUS, if you register for the LIVE Webinar, you will also be able to submit your logline to me for a critique and fix after the Webinar (details below).

If you’re trying to get professionals to notice your project, if you’re trying to submit your script anywhere, or even if you’ve posted or wanted to post your loglines in the Stage 32 Lounges and Forums, this Webinar is for you!

Whether you are a screenwriter, novelist, producer, director or exec, your project deserves to make the right first impression. Let me show how.

**Please note that the free logline critique Danny mentions in the webinar is not available for On-Demand. It was only available for members who attended the live webinar.**

Stage 32 6-Part Screenwriting Lab: Write Your Multi-Cam Comedy Pilot Script In 6 Weeks

Write the pilot script for your multi-cam comedy television series with expert guidance from a TV writer who has worked on multi-cam shows for Disney, Netflix, Freeform and other networks. ONLY 3 SPOTS LEFT! ***Flexible Learning: if you cannot attend any of the sessions live don't worry - you will be sent the links to the recordings of each session within 48 hours of the live session and you will have direct access to Eric on email to ask him any questions so you can keep up at your own pace and schedule.*** Payment plans available - contact edu@stage32.com for details   From CHEERS, SEINFELD, and FRIENDS to EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, BIG BANG THEORY, FULL HOUSE, and FULLER HOUSE, so many of the mega-hit shows that we all know and love are multi-cam comedy formats. In 2023, multi-cam sitcoms are everywhere, with shows like LOPEZ VS LOPEZ, THE CONNERS, NIGHT COURT, THE NEIGHBORHOOD and THAT 90'S SHOW all anchoring program schedules for their respective networks/streamers. There will always be a robust market for easy to produce, laugh-out-loud comedies, which means writing your own multi-cam pilot will greatly increase your staffing and development opportunities.  In this exclusive Stage 32 6-part screenwriting lab, you will work one-on-one with a veteran multi-cam comedy writer to write your very own pilot episode for your multi-cam series. You will not only write your pilot episode but you will learn the fundamentals of writing a multi-cam series and how to create a successful series that can go on for multiple seasons.  Guiding you step-by-step through writing your very own multi-cam pilot is Eric Zimmerman, a working TV writer for 14 years, including writing on all 100 episodes of Freeform’s multi-cam hit BABY DADDY. Eric most recently served as a Co-Executive Producer on Disney’s multi-cam SYDNEY TO THE MAX. He has also sold several multi-cam projects to Disney and Netflix, as well as worked on multi-cam network pilots. But most importantly, Eric wasn’t always a multi-cam writer. He got his start writing on single camera and animated series, including the Emmy-nominated DAN VS. But once he started writing multi-cams, he quickly fell in love with the genre. Over six interactive sessions, Eric will break down the creative process of developing your multi-cam comedy series, covering all the crucial topics that will get you from your original concept to delivering a draft of your own multi-cam pilot. Plus! you will have direct access to Eric on email to ask him any questions about your craft or your career.  Most kids and family sitcoms are multi-cams, which in many cases represent the easiest path to getting that ever elusive first writing job. In a world where writing staffs and episode orders are shrinking and opportunities for writers to go to set and gain valuable producing experience are becoming less and less the norm, multi-cam television is one of the few genres where the traditional job of a TV writer/producer still exists. By the end of screenwriting lab, you will have a completed draft of your multi-cam pilot script in hand that has been vetted by an industry professional and that will serve as an effective writing sample to help you find a rep, get staffed on a TV show or successfully sell as a spec!   "I am thrilled to be part of this vibrant stage 32 community! I have every confidence that my multi-cam  interactive lab will prove more valuable to your life than food, water, and perhaps even air." - Eric Zimmerman

What You Need To Know BEFORE Writing Your Feature Spec Script

It’s an incredibly exciting time to be churning out fresh stories. But when you’re writing feature spec scripts, you’re the boss of the story and no studio executive is there to tell you what they need from a marketing and sales perspective. So how do you know if you’re writing a script that will sell? There are a million ways to tell one story, but how do you tell your stories without spending hours of your precious creative juices only to be told that “It’s good, but I can’t do anything with it”? Don’t worry. We have an incredibly successful writer/producer who is going to bring his years of experience writing hits to teach you what this common mistake is and how to make sure you never hear the words “It's not for me.” Matt Ember is a writer/producer who has worked on over 20 feature films and television shows including THE CONNERS on ABC, THE WAR WITH GRANDPA with Robert Deniro, GET SMART with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway and FAILURE TO LAUNCH with Matthew McConaghey and Sarah Jessica Parker and many more. Matt has been involved with spec scripts over his storied career and he will be bringing his knowledge exclusively to Stage 32! Matt will be teaching you the functions of a feature spec script, the pros and cons of being a “hired gun” vs. writing your own spec script, PLUS the 5 reasons you should write a spec script. Based on your reasons for choosing to write a spec script, he’ll talk to you about how you should write your script. He’ll also go over the 5 things a spec script is NOT, the spec script as a personal statement, thinking like a professional, and understanding the marketplace. He’ll use three successful spec scripts as examples to give you specific writing tips on character, structure, format, and the things you need to know before you start writing. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from and ask a successful writer/producer all your questions and get direct guidance so you can deliver your best feature spec scripts!   PLUS! Matt will provide script downloads of 3 spec scripts you can learn from!

How To Craft Your Comedy Pilot: From Concept To Outline

Learn how you can craft the perfect sitcom from a writer who has developed and produced content for VH1, Comedy Central, Funny or Die, Adult Swim, and more. You’ve done it! You’ve come up with the brilliant idea for the next juggernaut hit comedy. Now comes the hard part: Deliver a story with a fresh point of view and have every reader laughing on every page. It’s an overwhelming process but this Stage 32 exclusive on-demand class will walk you through, step-by-step, from concept to outline, with the guidance of a professional comedy writer. Many writers don’t invest in the world of their sitcoms. Through this class, you’ll learn to understand world-building in situation comedy, how to create memorable characters that fit in that world, and how the humor comes out of the premise of your show. You’ll examine successfully produced sitcoms and examine different structures to find out which fits your script best. Walking you through how professionals craft and develop their own scripts is Michael Sokol, a screenwriter and producer whose pilot, TACO TUESDAY, was optioned by PopTV (SCHITT’S CREEK) and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films. His other credits include CAKE for FXX, MANDY for SpectreVision, and executive producing the feature film POSTAL.  If you want to get into the TV comedy writing industry this class is for you.    Testimonials from Michael's previous Stage 32 Education: "While incredibly knowledgeable in comedy and writing and structure in general, [Michael] is never trying to impose his own sensibilities on new writers. Instead, he has an innate sense for how to allow that writer to bring out their own sensibilities, even if they've never written a single page before" - Madison H. "Michael is an incredible comedy teacher. Not because he’s hilarious and a really experienced writer, but because he’s such a good listener and mentor. He encouraged me to better understand my point of view and then up the ante on the funny based on that. And my work got so much better with every pass because of his methodology." - Loretta C.
