One Minute Mobile Film golden rules

Creating one minute film with your smartphone can give you a dreamt credit on IMDb, awards on film festivals and lots of fun! And the cost can be low or even zero budget.

I believe, that as a screenwriter you are inventive. You can create an appealing story without the necessity for picturing in it an atomic mushroom. Here are few rules, which will help you create a good content:

1. It's only one page!

Keep it short and to the point. The best summary of the story structure is : jab, jab, hook!

2. Be inventive!

Tell an engaging story set in location, which you have access to. Second location would be a nice bonus, three - are maximum.

3. Timing is everything!

Before shooting read it with the stopper - you will need extra 3-6 seconds for the titles. If you are fitting into 55 seconds - you are ready to start shooting.

4. Gear

Simple tripod, selfie stick and mobile phone (4k resolution is a bonus).

5. Directing

Even in one minute film you can have few micro scenes, filmed from different angles and distance.

6. Edit

You can cut and glue scenes on your laptop - Windows has simple video editor app, or on your phone.

7. Titles

You can do it with stock picture and basic Canva account.

8. Cast

Co-operate with actors who would like to have an acting credit. If you are brave - perform by yourself.

9. Film festivals

There are few categories you can submit - like 'One Minute Film', 'Mobile film' or if your are doing a selfie video - there is such category as well.

You can do also well in regular categories.

10. Be fast!

If you start overthinking, the project will die! Imagine it is a flower, which lives only for a certain period of time. Then it's gone. You family members will start calling therapists, your friends will give you a leaflet of business studies - and you will leave the project in half way.

I made this post simple and short. Here is an example of one of my one minute films:

It already won few awards.

Wishing you all the best!
