I lost points on the blcklist.com by saying my show was a multi-camera but it was actually single. This is where I learned this.

Two weeks ago I pitched to an amazing writer/executive producer, wrote three episodes of GOT and an Oscar nominated movie. She told me my story tonally ... not funny... used MOONLIGHT as a comp so I was thinking this topic--comedy--not so relevant for me right now but I think this is extremely helpful in some essential understandings that are relevant across all genres.

Hollie Michelle Harper - the "K" sound makes the statement funnier in dialogue. If you are torn between two synonyms, chose the one with the "K" sound. Not stone, but blocK. Not head, but Cabeza. Not hit, but knocK.
This is one of the best screenwriting webinars I've attended, and it's not ended yet. So much invaluable knowledge is being shared and Vijal is such a great presenter.
My favorite "episodic show" joke -- The Simpsons' "real Principal Skinner" episode, where at the end (after Springfield collectively renounces the Earth-shattering revelation that "Principal Skinner" isn't who he says he is), someone notes that they will never speak of this again.

A good example of a character evolving and then devolving is Nate on TED LASSO - SPOILERS getting built up to become a coach in Season 1 and then betraying (and graying) the team in Season 2

Even when George and Susan were going to get married, that didnt really change the dynamic or the essential, comedic nature of George, and eventually they resolved the arc by killing Susan off and restoring status quo. So should a show have character arcs over a season or seasons?

So if Im going to write true to strictly Canadian culture, I can be more subtle. I keep getting the feeling that this wouldnt grab the balder market of the US. I think that become a significant question about writing cross culturally.
Yes, I know Schitz Creek was a hit, but thats balder writing from a Canadian standpoint. So these cultural differences doesnt mean it wont take off, but there is so much more that other cultures have to offer and Im not sure that gets picked up.

My favorite parts of Vijal Patel's workshop were the importance of clear characters and characters' dynamics, the fact that characters are always funny when they themselves are the cause of their own suffering, the exercise of wondering how characters would react in any situations, pairing opposites, the formula examples of Gilligan Island and Blackish, and the rule of three.

I struggle a lot with writing dialogue for ensemble casts because of how difficult it can be to give each character their own unique POV and speaking style - especially when I cannot bounce ideas off another writer. Are there any tips and pointers that you could share to help writers that are in my position to tackle writing for ensemble casts effectively even when the writers are working alone?
4. What about when you are creating characters who are supposed to be either quite smart, witty, and unpredictable? Does it make it more difficult for you to predict what your character is going to do very easily for those reasons, and what are your methods for overcoming this kind of writing struggle?
5. & are there any tools/techniques/checks-and-balances writers can use to check to see if the endings for their conflict are ending in a natural and/or entertaining way? Even if they don't have easy access to another writer or a test audience to bounce their ideas off of?
