THE DREAMERS

THE DREAMERS
By Shaun Graham

GENRE: Fantasy
LOGLINE:

A Sleep Technologist, in a coma after being overdosed on an experimental lucid dream drug, must team up with her husband and a mysterious young man in the dreamworld to bring her power mad colleague to justice.

SYNOPSIS:

JENNY, a sleep technologist, is discovered unconscious in her lab by BARRY, a colleague and pharmaceutical chemist. RYAN, Jenny's husband, rushes to Jenny, who is comatose at the hospital, and discovers she has overdosed on the experimental lucid dreaming drug that Barry developed and was preparing for trials.

Unbeknown to Jenny, the drug allows her to 'dreamshare' with others and she unwittingly pulls her husband into her coma dream that very night. With help from OLIVER, a mysterious and eccentric young man who also joins in on Jenny's dream, Jenny convinces Ryan that he must steal some of the lucid dreaming drug from her lab - If Ryan can ingest two experimental pills he'll be able to stay in Jenny's dream long enough for her to show Ryan how she ended up in a coma.

Ryan isn't sure he believes he actually shared a dream with his wife until he's able to steal a bottle of pills from the laboratory using a passcode that Jenny gave him in the shared dream!

Ryan joins Jenny and Oliver in Jenny's dream the next night and watches a reenactment of Jenny's colleague GAIL drugging Jenny after Jenny discovers that Gail has been stealing Barry's drug and experimenting with it. Gail's plan was to kill Jenny with an overdose and frame her for the drug theft.

After Ryan awakes, Gail, asleep, pulls Jenny into her dream and tries to finish off Jenny with a new technique she's learned. Inside of a dream, Gail can focus energy on another dreamer's chest and stop their heart, killing them in their sleep.

Jenny escapes Gail with help from Oliver and discovers Oliver is not asleep or in a coma, but deceased! Jenny learns that Gail hit Oliver with her car a year earlier and left him for dead. Oliver and Jenny's connection to Gail is what allowed them to 'dreamshare'. Oliver explains to Jenny that he was given time in the dreamworld by ALAN, a wizardly guide for the deceased, to say goodbye to friends and loved ones, but Oliver has overstayed his welcome because he's avoided saying goodbye to his father.

Gail enters Ryan's dream and demonstrates her power by bringing Ryan into Barry's dream and killing Barry by stopping his heart. Gail threatens Ryan by explaining she'll do the same to Ryan and Jenny if Jenny does not take the blame for the drug theft. Jenny and Oliver catch up to Ryan, let him know how Gail ran down and killed Oliver and warn him to stop taking the drug. With the drug out of Ryan's system, Gail will not be able to attack him.

Ryan awakes to discover that Gail has indeed killed Barry while he was dreaming. With some investigation, Ryan finds a way to have Gail arrested for Oliver's killing a year earlier using DNA evidence.

Oliver helps Jenny learn how to defend herself and fight back against Gail if Gail appears in her dream again.

Jenny supports Oliver in offering a final goodbye to his father in the dreamworld, and Oliver is now able to move on. But before moving on to the next plain of existence, Oliver makes a deal with Alan to wake Jenny from her coma.

Jenny awakes from her coma just as Gail attempts to give Jenny a lethal injection at the hospital. Gail is arrested for killing Oliver before she can do any more harm.

Now Jenny and Ryan must stay awake long enough to ensure Barry's experimental drug is out of their systems. Unfortunately they can only stay awake for so long and they both nod off and find themselves confronting Gail, once again, in the dreamworld.

Jenny battles Gail and is able to wake Ryan before Gail can hurt him. Jenny and Gail continue to fight but Jenny has more of the drug in her system and Gail's power soon runs out. Having the same powers as Gail, Jenny could end Gail's life and get away with it. She is emotional over Oliver's and Barry's deaths. Does Gail deserve to live?
