HAIL

HAIL
By Nate Rymer

GENRE: Animation, Fantasy
LOGLINE:

Caught in the wake of a devastating prophesised storm, a faithful hyena, bright-eyed chameleon and stoic elk band together to escape a vast forest of never-ending rain before their peaceful homeland is destroyed forever. ARCANE meets THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS.

SYNOPSIS:

On an ancient Earth of unbroken continents, anthropomorphic animals thrive.

Some follow Faith: placing trust in family and Gods. Some follow Reason: pursuing knowledge and fulfilment beyond home. And some follow Nature: preserving Earth’s wonders and community spirit.

Far from the Sea Beyond, beneath winding mountains, lies Iodonius Forest: a vast expanse of gentle rivers and lush unspoiled greenery.

Until one fateful day, when blue smoke erupts from the mountains, rippling a vicious rainstorm over the Forest, hurtling Faith-abiding striped hyena KINN into its heart.

Waking wounded and voiceless, his aardwolf partner CUTA vanished, Kinn fearfully recalls THE HAIL: an event foretold to destroy Iodonius and silence its citizens, should they not migrate to the mountains within 40 days.

Seeking a way out, Kinn bands with Nature-abiding chameleon KHAMY, searching for his overvigilant parents, and Reason-abiding elk ZEN, searching for inner peace.

Amidst the never-ending rain, the mute trio unravel their shared connection to the legendary all-healing BLUE ROSE, growing in the Forest’s depths. A loyal Blue Rose Church pastor, Kinn hopes to prove his devotion to cuckoo leader GAMBEL by finding the Original Blue Rose Tree. The bullied Khamy longs to cure his inability to camouflage. And Zen…has his own path to follow.

Along the way, encounters with benevolent and desperate strangers force the trio to confront their innermost desires: Kinn’s reconciling his sexuality with faith; Khamy’s acceptance of his disability; and Zen’s self-forgiveness of his past crimes.

But as Gambel’s influence grips his newfound evacuated followers in the mountainous Blue Rose Village, Cuta discovers a shocking revenge unfolding, rooted in Iodonius' traumatic past. Having applied his advanced knowledge of biological and chemical warfare to harness the Blue Rose's properties, the Elder plans to unleash an addictive liquid medicine to enslave the community, while obliterating the Forest with a volatile vapour once the Hail stops and the Sun returns after 7 days.

As the Elder's true intentions come to light, Kinn, Khamy, Zen and Cuta must race against time to stop Gambel's evil plan before it destroys the very union of Faith, Reason and Nature itself…

Really unique, exciting concept, Nate Rymer!

I'm confused by one part of the logline. "Escape a vast forest of never-ending rain before their peaceful homeland is destroyed forever." How does escaping from the forest keep their homeland from being destroyed forever?

Maurice Vaughan Thanks Maurice! There's a ticking clock element in play - the storm will destroy their homeland in 7 days, and the forest is part of their homeland, so they'll die in the forest if they don't escape it in time :)
