This is great, Kevin! I think that it would likely be more impactful and illustrate bigger stakes to say "a middle aged man STRUGGLES to take care of his blended, interracial family...".

Also, why do his wife's children and extended family hate him? Is it because they're a blended family and he's stepping into the shoes that someone else was in previously? Is it because they're as racist as the rest of the neighborhood?
