In today’s industry, screenwriters have more opportunities than ever, and standing out means understanding how literary agents work and what they’re really looking for. Agents receive hundreds, even thousands of submissions every month, and the writers who rise to the top are the ones who know how to position themselves and their material with confidence and clarity. You already have a unique voice and strong ideas; now it’s about making sure they’re seen. This webinar is designed to empower you with the insight and strategy you need to get noticed and move your career forward.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by contradictory advice, outdated “rules,” or vague guidance about what agents really want, you’re not alone. Many creatives struggle not because their writing lacks potential, but because the pathway to getting read, let alone represented, feels confusing and inaccessible. Writers often face challenges like unclear expectations, ineffective approaches, weak loglines, unfocused samples, and uncertainty about what “agent-ready” truly means. This session cuts through the confusion so you can stop guessing and start taking intentional, informed steps toward getting your work into the right hands.

Your instructor, Jessica Zou, brings almost a decade of real industry experience as a motion picture literary agent. Her career includes time at major companies like Verve, United Talent Agency, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, and Legendary, where she worked closely with agents representing writers, directors, and producers across some of the biggest films and series today—THE BOYS, SPIDER-VERSE, ELEMENTAL, and more. Jessica specializes in discovering emerging voices, scouting promising IP, and understanding exactly how agents evaluate, select, and sign new clients. Her insider perspective and hands-on experience make her uniquely qualified to guide you through the realities of the representation landscape.

In this webinar, you’ll get an overview of Hollywood’s representation ecosystem, what agents are really looking for, how agencies work internally, how to effectively approach agents, and the biggest mistakes writers make when trying to get signed. You’ll also receive a handout featuring a sample of a successful spec script to help you benchmark your own work. By the end, you’ll walk away with a clear understanding of how to present yourself, your voice, and your materials in a way that gives you the strongest chance of catching a literary agent’s attention.

Plus! You will receive:

  • A downloadable sample of a successful script!
