Hello, Stage 32 Family -

Today I want to present to you a short video blog series from one of our own Stage 32 Educators and Hollywood producer, Kip Konwiser. In the micro videos presented below, Kip and his brother Kern take us through the process of how they successfully created a four-part documentary series for Legendary Digital Studios.

The series is called MAKE IT WORK, and it explores the power of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to solve real world problems. Narrated by YouTube icon Hank Green and produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Kip and Kern Konwiser, the series follows several young disrupters as they use imagination and innovation to improve their communities.

It is distributed on Amazon and the Roku Channel.

We are grateful for Kip's video contribution, and I know you'll have a lot of take-aways from this.

Keep on Creating!

RB

Every movie is like a child and the parents, typically, and are the producer and director sharing the joys and struggles of creating something from nothing and presenting it to the world as a reflection on the best of the parents intentions.

MAKE IT WORK is a child that we are extremely proud of, as it was born from a genuine ambition to focus the spotlight on young people in America who are using STEM to transcend otherwise limiting boundaries in their lives to create products that benefit their world. Selflessness lives!

How to Create a DocuSeries that Intrigues The Making of Make it Work'Make It Work' is available on Amazon and Roku Channel.

It’s not often that a filmmaker is provided the resources of time and financing to allow the process of a movie about science exploration to unfold. However, Legendary Pictures provided all that assurance & support which is why this unique story was able to come to fruition.

We owe company founder Thomas Tull, production executive Pearl Wible, and Legendary Pictures a great thank you for their commitment to directing their massive influence to stories on STEM.

We hope you enjoy this peek into the process of innovation and curiosity - MAKE IT WORK is an antidote to those who feel the world is spinning out of control. Have no fear, the next generation is here and while they may not look or think exactly the way any previous generation has, if the children are our future then our future looks brilliant!

Gratefully yours,

Kip & Kern

1) How Did "Make it Work' Come Into Existence?

The minds at Legendary Pictures have known the Konwiser brothers for years. So when producer Thomas Tull approached the brothers with an big idea, Kip and Kern had to figure out a way to narrow that idea down so it was more specific, including who to include as subjects in the project.

2) How Do You Turn a General Idea into Something Specific?

Creating a docuseries for kids all came down to casting and finding the characters. Kip and Kern had to find kids that could inspire other kids, so they set out find students and hear their big ideas. They started by interviewing hundreds. in the end, it came down to a handful that would make the series.

3) The Challenge of Finding the Structure & Form of the Series

Now that Kip and Kern have their characters and are rolling, they're faced with the teaks of how to pull all of the kids' stories together. Even in a docuseries, you need to hold audiences attention with a narrative.

4) Vulnerability in Creating a Documentary

Doubting himself Kip wonders, is the story big enough? Despite following the journey of a select handful of students, Kip doubted himself for 9 months, wondering if anyone would watch.

This is only half of our story. We'll finish our journey with a second post with four more short videos. We do hope you'll join us on Thursday!
