Coffee & Content - Dialogue: Text, Subtext, & Context & 10 Lessons from the Top Film Editors

Happy Sunday, everyone. Hope you're all enjoying Introduce Yourself Weekend.

Coming to you live from the Seattle Film Summit where Stage 32 is serving as the education partner. It's been an inspiring few days of speaking and mentoring. Also been fantastic to meet so many Stage 32 members in person.

You might think all this would prevent me from bringing you Coffee & Content. You'd be dead wrong! Let's get to it.

First, from Art and Story, a deep dive into text, subtext, and context. What makes a great story sing? This video helps part the clouds.

Next, from This Guy Edits, a comprehensive video on film editing appropriately titled: 10 Lessons from the Top Film Editors. Whether you work as an editor or simply enjoy learning what makes a movie come together in post, I think you'll enjoy this one immensely.

As always, I ask that you pay it forward and share this content with those who you feel might benefit from viewing. Do it! It feels great.

I also welcome your thoughts and musings on the content in the comments section below.

And, of course, enjoy your Sunday, the remainder of Introduce Yourself Weekend, the coffee and the content!

Cheers.

RB

Just listened to the Dialogue Part 1 segment, appreciate the skillfully selected classic scenes reflecting on the talent of the screenwriter, but can’t understand why dropping an overly heart tugging track over the dialogue seemed like a good Idea. The track, perhaps unknowingly to the editor of the piece,p, weaves or pushes together different story themes and ideas that aren’t dramatically related at all. Washes over the true beauty of words, language and context of the moment.
