Happy Saturday Stage 32!

I hope you all had a beautiful and creative week. I was catching up on the trades this week (following the very sage wisdom of our founder and CEO Richard "RB" Botto: Always read the trades and know what is going on in the business of entertainment!) and I came across an article from Deadline Hollywood about the Emmy-Nominated Comedy PEN15.

In another installment of the Deadline series "It Starts on the Page", this article shares the script for episode 203 (Season 2, Episode 3) of PEN15. When it comes to reading television scripts, people often focus on reading TV pilots when preparing to write themselves. However, it is equally (if not more) important to also read scripts from episodes later into the evolution of a show. Today, I invite you to go beyond the pilot and sink your teeth into a tasty bite of season two comedy gold.

No matter what hat you wear in the industry, reading scripts is a great way to flex your creative filmmaking muscles. So grab your libation of choice and snuggle up with this delightful weekend read.

haha that is the joke! Have you seen the show? It is about two girls in Middle school - hence the code writing with "Pen15"

I rarely read episodes other than the pilot unless it's a comp show and then I want to see how they reveal characters throughout so I'll read as many of the episodes as I can.  I'm so concentrated on writing the best pilot that I forget that it's equally helpful to read through the episodes of good pilots too. I enjoyed reading this episode. Thanks

That is really common! Glad you enjoyed reading an episode outside of the pilot :)

Great post! The more scripts you read, the better you get at writing them.

Thanks for sharing - I rarely read past the pilot unless I'm working on it. I definitely spend more time reading features and figuring out the breakdown to create episodes. Thanks for jump starting my episodic reading!

so happy to help Cherelynn Baker! I realized I was doing the same thing and only reading pilots! It is so interesting to see how the story develops throughout the season
